Sheldon's Eastlake Victorian
|
This home really does have both "victorian charm" and a sense of progressivism. Everything in this house makes sense in its place and that creates interest.
In the spring of 1884 construction began on this home fit for a king. It was finished by fall of that year. Even though the finishes in the building indicate the ecclectivity of the 1870's, at the time of the guilded age, this house was ahead of it's time. Some of the more exciting features included yankee gutters with a rain collection system, an indoor bathroom (attached outhouse), large walk-in icebox, electricity for convenience, a chestnut multi-landing staircase, a marble coal burning fireplace and coal boilers for efficiency. Then the house then underwent a facelift in 1960 that included new siding, 2 new three piece bathrooms, and a new kitchen. The home has now been beautifully brought together after undergoing our extensive renovation of 2015-16, and everything is up to date. Our goal in renovating this house was to add all of the modern conveniences to a historic home, tastefully.
